2008 Pinot Gris
Excellent – Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2010 issue
“Estate vineyards in Salem, Ore.,
primarily the family's St. Jory site, make for an exemplary Pinot Gris
that leads with aromas of starfruit, lime, orange, apple, banana and
candy corn. A big burst of lime champions the flavors, giving this
enjoyable dryness that should play well with a shrimp salad.”
Chuck Hill’s Wines of the Week “Oyster-Friendly Wines” – October 22, 2009
“Nearly all of Duck Pond Cellars' Pinot Gris comes from the winery's estate vineyards near Salem: Delaney, Hylo and St. Jory. The Jory soil type in these vineyards is a weak volcanic ash and rock, promoting low-yielding vines. Look for aromas of melon, pear and mineral with a palate offering spicy pear and mineral notes that really work well with half-shell oysters.”

"Pale silvery straw. Starfruit, melon custard, and white strawberry aromas follow through on a brisk, round entry to a dryish light-to-medium body with citrus powder, sour cream, and talc notes. Finishes with a bruised apple and firm, dusty fruit tannin fade."

"Floral scents of apple and pear fruit also display subtle notes of spice. In the mouth, ripe pear flavors mingle with an impression of talc. Light and refreshing, with a verve that cries out for crab and leek fettuccine."
